Skills Practice and Bike Blessing Event Description

What: Skills Practice and Bike Blessing

This is a Closed chapter event

When: Saturday, April 25, 2026

Where: Crossroads Church, 990 Reading Road, Mason, Ohio 45040

Time: 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Contact: Rick Hyland

Purpose: For chapter members to have the opportunity to practice fundamental riding skills in a safe, controlled environment.

Description: Riders will meet in the Crossroads Church parking lot. After introductory remarks, riders will have the opportunity to have their bikes blessed. After the bike blessing is complete, participants will be assigned to a group. Groups will then be directed to one of the eight skill exercise areas. Each skill exercise will be introduced and demonstrated by a Road Captain. Each rider will then be given the chance to practice the skill until time expires for that skill exercise station. Each group will get about 15-20 minutes at each of the eight skill stations.

Skills to be practiced are: Slow speed riding, Turning from a stop, Weaving through a line of cones, U-turn in a box, Braking, Riding over a 2 x 4, Counter-steer, and a Cone maze.

Bike Blessing: Members who would like to have their bike blessed will be able to do so before the skills practice starts. Chapter members are welcome to come just for the bike blessing and forego the skills practice. The bike blessings will be conducted by the Christian Motorcyclists Association and possibly members of the Crossroads Prayer team.

Break: After the fourth skill exercise is complete, there will be a bathroom break. Unfortunately, the church will not be open, so members will have to go to one of the nearby gas stations. The skills practice will resume when everyone gets back. The plan is for the break to take 30 minutes.

General comments: Participants should only try the exercises with which they feel comfortable. Skipping an exercise is perfectly fine. Additionally, participants should only take an exercise to a point with which they are comfortable. Hopefully riders will recognize a few areas that they could improve on and then practice those skills on their own.

*DISCLAIMER* This is not a class or course and there are no instructors. This is merely an opportunity for chapter members to get together and practice some fundamental riding skills.
