Ride: Central Kentucky Civil War Ride
Description: I think everyone knows I'm a historian at heart. The American Civil War has been my passion for over 30 years. On this three-day, two-night weekend, I will take you on some of the most beautiful, sweeping backroads of Kentucky. The scenery is even more beautiful. This will be a 3-day, 2-night ride to central Kentucky to visit one of the most pristinely preserved Civil War battlefields in America. Over 8000 soldiers died on October 8, 1862. It was the biggest battle of the war before Antietam or Gettysburg. The history behind it is very interesting and I will try to put out some information on our Facebook page to give you some more insight.
We will first ride to Bardstown, Ky on day 1 and enjoy some nice country scenery and yet another historic town to visit. Day 2 we will ride about a half hour to Perryville and visit the battlefield for a couple of hours. Then a ride out in the country and stay in Danville, Ky that night. Day 3 we will get up and head home to Powder Keg. Remember, this is partially a destination ride, so the riding will not be as long as past overnight rides.
Road Conditions: Nice country backroads; some highway
Costs: Typical gas stop costs
Miles: Appx. 490
