Group Riding / Twisties Practice

Event date:
Sat, 04/11/2026 - 10:00am

What: Group Riding and Twisties Discussions and Practice Ride

Date: Saturday, April 11, 2026

Where: Powder Keg Harley-Davidson HOG Room

Time: 10:00 am

Description: The Group Riding discussion will cover numerous aspects of group riding. Topics will include ride preparation, formation geometries, hand signals, lane change procedures, accident and mechanical breakdown procedures, and more. New for this year will be information covering formation procedures when a trike is leading the group. The discussion is geared towards riders who are new to the chapter. Nonetheless, if a member has ridden with us for a few years but has never sat through a thorough discussion on how we ride as a chapter, that rider will likely get something out of the session, too. The discussion will also be a good refresher for those chapter members who have attended this discussion in the past. Attendees are encouraged to bring all their questions about how and why we do things during a chapter ride. The Group Riding discussion will take about an hour and 15 minutes.

After about a 15 minute break, we will start the Twisties discussion around 11:30 am. The Twisties discussion will cover how to approach and negotiate curves. Topics will include braking, countersteer, throttle control, and more. The discussion is planned to last 30 minutes.

Lunch: After the Twisties discussion is finished, we will take a 1 hour lunch break. Participants can either bring their own lunch or go to one of the nearby places to get lunch.

Ride Description: At 1:00 pm chapter members who want to go on the practice ride will attend the ride briefing. The purpose of the ride is to practice many of the areas covered in both the Group Riding and Twisties discussions. There will be highway lane changes, one up and two up segments, going through intersections, and more. Riders can also think about and practice the material covered in the Twisties discussion while on the ride. The ride briefing and assigning people to groups will take approximately 20 -25 minutes, so the first group should be leaving the Powder Keg parking lot around 1:30 pm. The ride will last about an hour, so the first group should return to Powder Keg around 2:30 pm. A short debrief will follow the ride giving members the chance to ask questions.
